Random Projects
The Collections of junk on this page are projects
that I have hacked up that may be useful for the
racer, hot rodder, or general automotive
enthusiast.

The Camera Mount and Fire Extinguisher
Mounts are the first few projects that I have
posted.

What next, not sure. I'll think of something and
get it going. One thing I apparently need is a
Tow Hook for the Mustang (The Ripper). Might
be easier to just get one... But what fun would
that be!

So far some parts coming from MCM electronics for the camera mounts
which were CCTV mounts from Panavise and MG electronics. These CCTV
Ball heads are lower cost about 15 bucks or so.

  • Panavise
  • Novoflex
  • Giottos
  • Bogen
  • Manfrotto
  • Sunpak
  • Silk

And Range right about 50 bucks from some of the camera shops. I'll also
post some shots of the I/O Port Racing versions that I have, or check out
their site. The concern is that due to high vibration that some may be better
then others. The CCTV ones, el-cheepo's are suspect but are about 10
bucks and might be ok, but a bit suspect. The Panavise are stronger
looking but will see when in hand. The regular camera mounts might be
good, but also may be suspect in high vibration environments. One thing
that is to be mentioned that the CCTV mounts should be only used with a
lipstick camera and not a camcorder but that is left up to the you to see if
you think it is strong enough, likely not. And you don't want to get bashed in
the noggin with a camcorder as you will have a ding on your helmet and a
bunch of small parts flying inside of your car, not to mention that you will
have not captured any more video except the funny video of a smashed up
camera.

Base will be either be the standard pipe support or the heavy duty version.
Both from McMaster Carr.

This project is for a simple, strong roll bar fire extinguisher mount. The
initial version was for the Sunbeam Tiger (Tony) and subsequently made a
second version for the Mustang (The Ripper). The parts are easy to make
and is a good do it your self project that will save you some money. Fun to
make as well.

Fire Extinguisher
Some shots of the carburetor used on The Ripper. It is a DamBest 358 Dirt
Open Carb Rule model. The cost is expensive, but if you figure the cost of a
Holley Pro series carb, toss in any blue printing your at least what the
DamBest carbs cost. I will have it on the dyno vs. a 830 Nascar Holley and
see how it does, but the DamBest out of the shoot had much better throttle
control and was crisper over all. The one issue I did have was some idle
issues and perceived fuel draw when the throttle was close at high
vacuum. This may be totally off, but John at DamBest help get some
simple mods to make the carb better. All of which could have been done by
him as part of the package if I had better engine specifications when I had
ordered it.  The DamBest carb is a very nice part, John Satterfield is owner
operator, designer, engineer. And I can say extremely responsive to any
and all questions. Just let him talk and don't interrupt...

Click the Link to Online Metals if you need metal, plastic or
other materials in small quantity and cuts. They are very
easy to get what you need for your projects. Most of the
projects above use metal from them. And Prices are pretty
good.
